Kat M,
this is a great sequel to the first book in the Vilokan Asylum of the Magically and Mentally Deranged, the characters were what I was expecting from the previous book and I really enjoyed the storyline。I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review。
Kimberly,
Interesting take on the Bible story of Cain and Abel。 Cain still has his curse attached and is a werewolf who runs an asylum for the magically deranged I thoroughly enjoyed this book and plan on getting the whole series

These stories are absolutely addicting。 The characters are well developed。 You just cannot help but be invested in their story and hoping for the absolute best to prevail over all the hurt and pain! Absolutely cannot wait for more of this world!。I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review。
Vannessa,
Another great compilation of two more books in the world of Cain, the original werewolf。In The Mark of Cain, Cain is visited by an old vampire acquaintance, who needs his help, but unfortunately this vampire has been compromised and the situation is more dire than Cain can handle alone。 It takes the help of other vampires, werewolves and witches to get to a happy solution! In The Cowl of Cain, another blast from the past reappears, making Cain feel things he hasn't felt in a long time。 He is tor Another great compilation of two more books in the world of Cain, the original werewolf。In The Mark of Cain, Cain is visited by an old vampire acquaintance, who needs his help, but unfortunately this vampire has been compromised and the situation is more dire than Cain can handle alone。 It takes the help of other vampires, werewolves and witches to get to a happy solution! In The Cowl of Cain, another blast from the past reappears, making Cain feel things he hasn't felt in a long time。 He is torn between his true feelings for Rutherford and the enhanced feelings brought on by the cowl! Cain is a great character and as a therapist, he has a great insight on how to deal with his emotions and those of others around him。 He is strong, passionate and determined, yet is willing to accept help when and where he needs it。 Jessie was a great addition to the team in this collection as well - her powers definitely come in handy! If you haven't read the first 3 books in this series, I would highly recommend them, but you can read these books without them。I received a copy of this book from the author, but this review is my own, honest one! 。。。more
Jennifer,
Cain is settling into life with Rutherford when a vampire he met centuries ago calls on him for aid。 Lord Ruthven doesn't have just any run of the mill problem。 Now with his mind being controlled by another he enacts the seven fold curse and Cain must decide what to do。 We see several familiar faces in this story。 The next story in the book features a very powerful witch who is also from Cain's past and she makes his blood run cold。 She challenges him in a way he never imagined。 Through it all h Cain is settling into life with Rutherford when a vampire he met centuries ago calls on him for aid。 Lord Ruthven doesn't have just any run of the mill problem。 Now with his mind being controlled by another he enacts the seven fold curse and Cain must decide what to do。 We see several familiar faces in this story。 The next story in the book features a very powerful witch who is also from Cain's past and she makes his blood run cold。 She challenges him in a way he never imagined。 Through it all he gets aid from those he's come to trust and rely on。 I love Cain's character and as always Monroe does a wonderful job telling the story。 Each character has strong development and a real purpose。 Love this series。 I volunteered to read this book via Booksprout。 。。。more
Christi,
Action packed, fast paced, full of humorous insight from the original bad boy, what is not to like? People from the past just keep returning or getting resurrected。 First, Lord Ruthven brings his entourage and a big problem to New Orleans in order to get Cain to help。 Then, one of his dead wives returns along with the Witch of Endor and an infernal object。 How will Cain and his group of Supes handle each thing thrown at them?。I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a revi Action packed, fast paced, full of humorous insight from the original bad boy, what is not to like? Steve,
This is turning out to be a very good series。 Cain is getting more and more problems to sort out。 What are we going to to see next I wonder。 Highly recommended。
Tahnia Ross,
Cain is up to his neck in trouble again as he deals with the issue of the Baobhan Sith, a being who can control the minds of werewolves and to a lesser extent, vampires。 This story has plenty of action, contains some romance, and ends in a cliffhanger。 Very highly recommended。I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review。
Christinaraven,
Cain is back and so is trouble。 So many problems to overcome and solve but he is definitely up for it all。 Entertaining and fun to read I found it hard to put down as I was sucked into his world。 Had to see what he would face this time and how he would solve it。 And what surprises would pop up too。 Not disappointed in the least and a great addition to the wacky world。
Craig,
If you're expecting the typical novel about New Orleans and the practice of voodoo, you're in for a big surprise。 Take the original murderer, toss in werewolves and witchcraft, stir briskly with a dash of necromancy, season with some occult psychiatry; and toss with some nice salad "fixins"。 Theo Monroe's novels are never simple。Do yourself a big favor 。。。 read the series in order, each book is a treat and each builds a bit on the others。 If you're expecting the typical novel about New Orleans and the practice of voodoo, you're in for a big surprise。 Take the original murderer, toss in werewolves and witchcraft, stir briskly with a dash of necromancy, season with some occult psychiatry; and toss with some nice salad "fixins"。 Theo Monroe's novels are never simple。Do yourself a big favor 。。。 read the series in order, each book is a treat and each builds a bit on the others。 。。。more

PAR,
The way Theophilus Monroe writes is captivating from the beginning and you just want to keep reading and reading and not stop。 It is both descriptive and has great world building (important for a fantasy) but also is interesting and is filled with mystery/suspense throughout。 Can you imagine reading the story of Cain, alive and breathing in 2022 and has been here since what many of us think of as day one of our new religion。 Need I say more? I so wanted more!! Honestly the ending of this particular segment was absolutely amazing! Be prepared the ending is going to totally throws you for a twist! 。。。more

The Mark of Cain is an excellent read as in delves into the further trials and tribulations of Cain as he struggles to juggle his personal life with the challenges that comes from being the psychoanalyst to the supernatural。 It's hard to imagine that the world's first murderer has evolved so much in 6000 years that he is truly capable of transforming infernal magic into the celestial kind through the embodiment of love that dwells within him。 The Mark of Cain is an excellent read as in delves into the further trials and tribulations of Cain as he struggles to juggle his personal life with the challenges that comes from being the psychoanalyst to the supernatural。 It's hard to imagine that the world's first murderer has evolved so much in 6000 years that he is truly capable of transforming infernal magic into the celestial kind through the embodiment of love that dwells within him。 。。。more

The second compilation in the “Vilokan Asylum of the Magically and Mentally Deranged” series, offers two delightfully deranged stories in the verse (“The Mark of Cain” and “The Cowl of Cain”), continuing Cain’s story, should you have not read the previous three books, I cannot recommend enough that you do, like right now, and even before that make the effort to discard whatever notion you ever have about Cain, Abel and the whole tradiert biblical story, because Theophilus Monroe will challenge y The second compilation in the “Vilokan Asylum of the Magically and Mentally Deranged” series, offers two delightfully deranged stories in the verse (“The Mark of Cain” and “The Cowl of Cain”), continuing Cain’s story, should you have not read the previous three books, I cannot recommend enough that you do, like right now, and even before that make the effort to discard whatever notion you ever have about Cain, Abel and the whole tradiert biblical story, because Theophilus Monroe will challenge your presuppositions in each and every page。 Thus, : welcome back into the Asylum, relax and enjoy the ride across the most crazed verse you will ever come across 😉。 First enjoy Cain trying to help the very same vampires that intended to assassinate him, to come to terms with the effects of the curse that turned them into ‘vampire-wolves’, by becoming into their Alpha。 As the final confrontation between Cain and the vampire Lord, the pack alliances will be put to the test, with Cain live in the balance。 Afterwards, we are privy to the story of Cain having to wear an infernal enchanted cowl, that prevented him to shift at the full moon for over a century… but that is just the very beginning of the curse…。 the consequences of which spread over all moon phases。When it comes to Monroe, I have learnt always to expect the unexpected, and then some more。 With every new book I cannot help to wonder at his ingenuity and the permanent ‘creative fugue’ that seems to permeate every and each one of his characters, and I must add his wonderful and completely disregard of boundaries。 Every one of his characters have successfully found their way into my life, from Elijah, through Mercy, Joni, Annabelle, and Isabelle to Nyx and beyond。 Those of you acquainted with ‘The Gates of Eden’ verse already know and understand, everyone else (there is still anyone not acquainted with Monroe’s ‘Gates of Eden’) will find their way to it eventually 😊The “Vilokan Asylum of the Magically and Mentally Deranged” is part of the “Gates of Eden”, an fully original verse that loosely borrows Arthurian tropes and transfer them organically into a modern urban fantasy that spans centuries, crossing realms and blurs the boundaries between reality and legend and transforms them into a veritable smørrebrød of action, unexpected twists, wonderful characters and mind-blowing descriptions, garnished with a good dose of magic some sprinkles of mythical lore and some paranormal romance on the side, and served with very well-crafted, with an accurate world building, interesting characters, captivating writing style and carefully editing。 Monroe’s ‘Garten of Eden’ verse is populated by a vast number of extraordinary characters, which are (unless very subjectively) almost impossible to rank, but nobody would ever contest that Cain is at the top of the food chain, I mean maybe someone would (rank them)…。 eventually at their own risk, providing they are brave enough to challenge the most deranged of them all 😉 。。。more
Mel,
A great ending to the series, for now!I really couldn’t put this down and read each of the books within this one volume in a few hours! They are both awesome, action packed stories with werewolves and vampires and witches and more! Such a great wind-down story for the end of the series in the second book, but with plenty of scope for Cain being in other series’ later on。 Fantastic!。 I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review。

Oh heavens, there is something about Cain and Rutherford's relationship that so reminds me of a long comfortable married couple, who genuinely love one another。 I adore the banter between them, so realistic and spot on! I really enjoy Theo's writing style, the way he manages to make even the unbelievable, believable。 His characters are just amazing, they are all so on point, they're not wishy washy at all, they're credible, interesting, fallible, excitable and quite frankly, loveable! Yes, even the "villians"! They all have a reason as to why they are the way they are, I love that! There are new characters added in each book and they fit in so well, like a canoe gliding through water, barely a ripple。 Once again Cain faces an inordinate amount of challenges but the beautiful is reading how he navigates it all。 I love the plot, I love the characters, let's face it, I'm a die hard fan! 。。。more
